This Is What Happens To Your Body 10 Hours After Putting On Nail Polish

Even the most health-conscious people can fail to consider how nail polish is affecting their bodies. But a recent study found that many of the most popular nail polish brands in America are much more harmful than they would seem.

We don’t urge you to abandon nail polish altogether. The negative effects its ingredients may have on your body.

What is the main danger to your health?

The dangers of nail polish lie in its toxicity. Some modern nail care cosmetics contain the following components, capable of seriously damaging your health:

Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is a well-known carcinogen that can dissolve in water and air (you know that strong nail polish smell?). Exposure to this chemical can also produce symptoms of a scratchy throat, asthma, and difficulty breathing. Those with chronic diseases are especially susceptible to poisoning from formaldehyde.

Toluene
This chemical is known to impede development in children (and some scientists found traces of it in breast milk!). Additionally, it can be irritating to the skin upon exposure.

Dibutyl Phthalate
Some nail polish brands swap this phthalate for TPHP, but it’s no better for your health. In fact, it poses similar health risks such as hormonal disruption and reproductive system toxins.

Scientists conducted a study with a group of 24 women. 6 hours after painting their nails, most of the participants were displaying elevated levels of diphenyl phosphate — a derivative of triphenyl phosphate which is formed in the process of metabolism. 10 hours after the beginning of the experiment, the levels of diphenyl phosphate in the bodies of all participants rose to 7 times above the norm. These results are truly alarming.

How do you choose a nail polish that won’t cause damage to your health?

Some nail polish packages and bottles have special markings:

“5-Free“ means that the product doesn’t contain formaldehyde, its derivative resins (formaldehyde resins), toluene, dibutyl phthalates, or camphor.

”3-Free” means that the polish is free of just three of the harmful components: formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene.

Before buying nail polish, first and foremost pay attention to the ingredients, and remember — your health is in your hands!
